Miner’s Rights

This article appeared in the minutes of the Berwick Shire Council published in The South Bourke and Mornington Journal on the 19th of September 1883.

“From Secretary of Lands Department, requesting to know what action the Berwick Council were going to take in reference to land being taken up under miners’ rights in the Berwick Park. – Councillor Souter moved that the Government be informed that the Council intend giving the miners in question twelve months to quit, and at the same time requesting the Government to proclaim the reserve a public park.- Seconded by Councillor White and carried.”

Just imagine trying to do that today!
