This story was repeated in numerous newspapers but the most legible report was in the Queanbeyan Age on Tuesday the 21st of January 1908. I think that this would strike fear in many parents in Australia. It also shows what life in the bush was like.
SNAKE IN BED WITH CHILDREN
“Mrs. J. Morris, of South Melbourne who was with her two children on a visit to her brother-in-law at Harkaway, Victoria, had a startling experience on Monday night. She had put the two children to bed early in the evening, and on retiring herself, she was horrified to find a snake curled up between them under the bedclothes. Lifting the children out, she hurried from the room, and raised the alarm. The men ran in and a search commenced, which was unsuccessful for some time until Morris lifted a cushion off an easy chair, and the reptile made off, but was easily despatched. It was a black snake, and measured nearly 3 feet. “
