This article was in The Argus on Thursday, 27th of March 1884. I think what stands out about this report is that it was so graphic, yet so short.
“On Tuesday, a young man named Henry Hers aged 22, in the employ of Mr. James Clarke, Beenak, was stacking timber, when, without the slightest warning, a tree fell upon and killed him instantly. He was dreadfully mutilated.”
